VPR exists to inspire an informed public and an engaged community. The station will expand its facility in the Fort Ethan Allen complex in Colchester to accomplish this purpose and to achieve its vision as the most relevant media institution in Vermont.
The facility will provide a new public engagement space in which VPR will convene essential community conversations and explore issues that define our region and lives. The Center will foster community participation and enhance the creative dialogue in our region. It will serve as an important focal point for cultural enrichment, including music performances, lectures and readings. Acoustically designed, it will be possible to record, broadcast and video a wide range of events to bring compelling content to our broader audience.
As VPR’s services have grown, its facility has been outgrown by the staff and infrastructure necessary to deliver those services. VPR will serve the public with a future focused newsroom which will make it possible to fulfill the public’s needs and expectations of multi-platform reporting today and tomorrow.
Additional studios will make it possible for VPR to provide more broadcast services, including pubic media music programming currently not available to Vermonters through traditional radio. Construction of the new facility is expected to begin in 2016.
