Weekly Continuity and Construction Communication (as of July 2, 2015)

Parking at 365 Troy Avenue for Coming Weeks

Next week, the construction team will start to work on building the permanent parking lot on the north side (by Ferguson Waterworks) of our building. Here are the changes we should be prepared for:
  • As of Monday July 6th, we will experience a couple of weeks of reduced parking by about 7-10 spots (from current available spots).
  • There will be construction fencing that runs from the side of the building where Membership sits to the street, which cuts off some of the north side parking spots.
  • The paved parking area in the front of the building will be closed off from the exit on one side, so people leaving those spots will need to exit the area the same way they entered the area.
  • We can anticipate this change to last about 2-3 weeks, at which time we will be able to use some of the new permanent parking area that is being created.
  • There will be a handicapped parking spot created in the front of the building for this transitional period.

South Side Picnic Area and Walkway

On the south side of the building, you will now be able to exit the side door, and use the picnic area, as well as come and go from the parking areas. You must use the walkway designated by the construction fencing for entry and exit (it runs from the side door, along the lawn areas by the picnic furniture, and along the side of the building by Madelyn's office towards the parking areas).

Upcoming Period of Construction Noise and Work Push

During the week of July 20 - 24 the construction crew will be working on foundation footings and walls. It's anticipated that backfill and compaction work will be rough, and the drilling noise will be fairly constant throughout the day. Moreover, the subcontractor will need to push through with this work if possible without much work stoppage to accomplish their aims and keep the construction on schedule. To accommodate this upcoming stage, stakeholders from around the building will be meeting next week to discuss strategies for getting through that week with minimum disruption to our on-air product while still having maximum construction progress. We'll be looking for creative ways to get our content on the air while staying consistent with the quality that our listeners expect ... think pre-recordings, whisper booths, satellite studios, etc.

Live Performances

We have a few live performances happening in the Performance Studio in July. People are already talking about what we'll need to do with construction activity during those times. It's great to see teams of people coming together to stay focused on our business continuity this way!

POTENTIAL NOISE IMPLICATIONS:
  • The concrete pouring will be lots of machinery noise, back-up alarms, and loud noises are also expected from pumping and mixing the concrete.
  • Excavation for the new parking lot should be similar in noise as the construction of the temporary parking lot in front.
  • Backfill and compaction work will be rough. The “drilling” noise will be fairly constant throughout the day.
