Remember last week, all the love we showered on the engineers for pulling off miracles feats of cable repair with minutes to spare before going live? Here's another way you can show the engineering team your appreciation:
Give your guests proper arrival instructions.
In the last week, half a dozen guests came to the staff entrance of TOE and rang the doorbell. One visitor was found wandering aimlessly around the dumpsters and generator on the side yard. Instead, this is where all guests enter VPR: the front door.
It can be confusing to arrive here with so many construction vehicles and no permanent signage yet to help the cause. When I give Vermont Edition guests directions, I generally tell them they'll drive through an industrial wasteland (Troy Ave) to arrive at construction site (VPR), and they should use the blond-wood-and-glass entrance set far back from the road, with two visitor parking spots right by the door.
Studio-palooza!
As mentioned last week, Performance Studio is offline for the summer. Coming soon, we will lose more studios to the construction project (but! we'll get them back in better shape than ever!). Franny and Vic have put a ton of work into planning when old studios go offline and new studios come online. They tried to maximize available studio space, but we will be working with fewer resources.
Here's the plan:
Week of May 9th:
- Training in Vocal Booth (in the corner of the newsroom)
- Training in Studio One Control
- Studio A goes offline for renovation
- Master, Talk, Studio B and Studio C are available for tracking and production - check schedules in Zimbra
Week of May 16th and going forward:
- Studios B and C go offline for renovation
- Studio One Control Room becomes VPR Classical's temporary home!
- Studio One Control is also available for tracking and production on Tuesdays and Fridays after 2pm
- Master and Talk are available for tracking and production - check schedules in Zimbra
Board ops, engineers and producers have received more detailed notes on dates and training in new rooms; Franny or Vic can answer those questions for anyone who is curious.

Animals!!!
Herewith, the accumulating list of wildlife that has been spotted through the windows at VPR:
- three deer
- a red fox
- a snowy egret (albino??)
- a woodchuck (not the cider)
A few more, and we have ourselves a Christmas carol!
We could use more visitor spaces. When staff fill the lot, there are not enough spaces if there are guests for VTED and a guest coming in around the same time.

ReplyDeleteWill there be a receptacle for returnable cans and bottles? I fear they may be ending up in the trash and recycling.
