Continuity update for week of August 8, 2016

Hello friends!

Many details to share below, including a helpful visual aid that Heather designed to explain the sequence of moves that will allow everyone to relocate to their "forever home" (as they call it the pet adoption business) when the final phase of construction is finished.

Speaking of Heather, she will be guest blogging for the next few weeks while I'm on PTO. See you after Labor Day!

Construction news:

Wed, Aug 10: fire alarm will be sounding off in the historic part of the building. This is part of the Certificate of Occupancy process.

• Mon., Aug. 15: floor in Studio A is scheduled to be refinished
• Wed., Aug 18: all the carpet is getting shipped! This is for Green Room, Studio B, hallway, etc.
• Mon., Aug. 22: handrails installed on the patio
• Right now: Studio A is getting rewired by the engineers
• Right now: negotiating delivery of the new Steinway piano
• Mid-September: new door will be installed at the former front entrance of the historic building
• Late-October:  sliding door will be installed at the entrance to Master Control/Talk to help mitigate hallway noise

Jenga - let's play!

We have referred several times to the complicated puzzle of moving people from their current seating to their new seating. Sometimes we refer to this with panicked faces and erratic hand gestures because, truly, there are no words. It's just really freaking complicated.

(A big part of the complexity is this: people are sitting in desks right now that will not be their desks when they move in. Which means we need to move several people to a temporary location in temporary furniture, in order to move their old desk to a new location, in order for a different staffer to move into that desk, and it goes on and on.)


It took a lot of table-top gaming, but we've landed on a scenario that causes the least disruption to everyone involved.
