Continuity Update for September 8

I have deeply missed writing the Monday blog post for you while on PTO, so much so that I'm posting this Thursday update:

Right now!
Carpeting is being installed in the Green Room! Rolls of carpet just arrived. Starting tomorrow (Friday) morning, installation will finish in the Green Room and then continue down the hallway all the way through the music library to the original front door. Awesome!

Studio access shouldn't be hampered while they work in the Green Room, save for the occasional leap frog game with the carpet layers. We don't expect off-gassing to be strong, but there might a little "new car smell." We can walk on the carpet immediately but please do not drag heavy objects across it, like furniture or the expired bodies of exhausted producers. Leave them slumped in a corner for now.

We rooted for a luxurious rust-colored shag carpet but were over-ruled. Sadly, you can't
always get what you want.

Upcoming week:

• Keep piling up the awards that VPR has won, because the cabinetry to display the hardware is almost finished. These are the large built-in cases you've seen along the wall outside Master Control. 
• Mission control for the on air Next campaign will set up in the Green Room mid-week.
• You know who you haven't seen? The engineers. That's because they've been buried in wiring under the studio consoles in Studios A, B and C for weeks getting them ready to go back on the air. VPR Classical is slated to move back to Studio B the week of Oct 3. Training in that new studio will be done in late September.
• Studio 1 details are still coming together: on Tuesday and Wednesday, "panic bars" will be installed on the exit doors, using drills that will make some noise. (Panic bars are the metal push bars that allow an audience to open a door quickly in an emergency. "Panic Bar" is also a good band name, and also makes me think, "Oh my god!! I'm freaking out about xyz crisis!! Can we grab a drink at the Panic Bar?!")
• Painting is on-going.

Coming milestones:

• The massive Moving of the Desks and People (which we call "Phase 3," so boring) is still planned for October, but specific dates are TBD.
• Studio 1 construction should be finished next week, and then the engineers get their hands on it for wiring and wizardry.

Moment of zen:
Joe calls this rainbow lighting phenomenon "better than the Loft's disco ball." The refracted (reflected?) light display has been seen regularly on the TOEF wing's wall and also Haley's desk.
