Weekly Continuity and Construction Update (as of October 1, 2015)

Step inside and feel the spaciousness!

As the construction crew continues to build walls and floors and things really take shape, you can now walk inside what will be the news room area, and it feels so BIG! Of course it will fill in with walls and furniture and all manner of final touches but I hope this promise of spaciousness encourages you to TAKE A TOUR! As always, we'd love to provide a group tour if schedules and interest allow. Or, consider taking a single tour at any point. Imagine how it will feel to work in the new building. Have a look below. General construction updates and points of interest

Studio walls are going to grow higher next week, internal framing is starting to indicate where some rooms will be, and we can anticipate that windows will get cut into the metal walls in December. Trees are getting cut to make room for power, sidewalks are going in, and a PARKING LOT is emerging - we may have a paved section soon. More steel work is planned, and the impact wrench may be noticeable in the Music Library next week. Overall, it's safe to say construction noise will feel like more of the same.

Things you may have noticed or may hear about

There was some water coming through the ceiling into the Green Room while the construction team was working on that portion of the roof. It will be alleviated shortly when the roof is finished and it is expected that any carpet damage will be remedied as part of the renovation of that area.

It's been noticeably cold in the Green Room and we will be working to remedy that as best as we can by re-insulating the former tech wing door and examining heat options.

We are hoping to do a generator test on Saturday morning (10/3) because we're using temporary generator right now while a platform for our generator is being created. The location where the old generator was is being turned into a sidewalk.

Remember all that talk a while back about purging and moving?

The Continuity Group is starting to pick back up again knowing that we are going to have a big shift of humans to manage as the whole staff gears up to move together into the new addition while we wait for the renovation of the older portion of the building to be completed.  That's right ... it will be full staff migration into the new building addition in March 2016. There will be a number of moving parts to consider beyond just getting everybody comfortable into a new desk. One example ... master control and talk studio will be getting some basic renovations/changes as part of the construction project so we'll need to figure out how to use other areas while they are closed. I hope that everybody will start to think about their personal timeline ... how long will it take you to pack up your desk and move to another location? Do you need to purge some of what is at your desk? Right now we have the luxury of time on our side ... March is the target date for the migration. But, keep it in mind as something you know will hit your workflow radar in the not too distant future. You'll hear more from the Continuity Goup as this part of the project kicks into full gear.
