Check out Walter broadcasting live from Studio One Control! Studio B (and Studio C... and Studio A...) are now vacated to make way for renovations, and we get to watch the VPRCL masters at work through the lobby window for the foreseeable future. Enormous kudos to the engineers for building this studio from scratch - and for building the new vocal booth at the corner of News & Programming. Dang!

Hole in the wall
Could've done without the dust, but it was still really cool watching the construction guys pull bricks out of the wall last week. In case you missed it:
Books!
Other books (like the seven copies of a romance novel that a publisher sent us in hopes we'd schedule a book tour interview) are not so precious, and those are free for the taking. For now, free books are on the table in the Green Room - help yourself!
Windows: close them!
The luxury of opening a window is only surpassed by the wisdom of closing that window before you leave for the day. Make it a habit to double-check.
Construction news:
Here's some of the work that will be happening in the coming days:
- Mon-Wed: grinding the floor in Studio One, which sounds terrifyingly loud but apparently won't be problematic for working nearby or being on air in Studio One Control.
- Masonry work in the kitchen continues around the new hole in the wall.
- On the south side of the building, the old side door to the parking lot and the old emergency exit door from the attic will be bricked over and turned into windows.
- The sidewalk to nowhere on the north side of the building will get a destination soon! A door is being cut into the wall there.
- In the last week, the HVAC equipment has been torn out of the ceiling in the long studio hallway. That work is almost done, and soon the plastic sheeting will move way down to the far end of the hall, making the single bathroom easier to access again.

And, what a difference a month a makes!
When we moved in, the cold temperature in the building was attributed to contractors propping the doors open and letting in the cold air from outside. Now that it's 70 degrees out, is there a way we can work at our desk and have feeling in our fingers at the same time? Last week, at least one member of the newsroom was not able to work at their desk because it is so cold down here. I'm dressed in long sleeves and pants, so I imagine my colleagues who are actually dressing for the weather are miserably cold.
