Continuity update for October 20

Oooh, pretty new mailboxes! Hey, what does that red clip mean? (Read below!)

Well hello there, friends!

We all reached a huge milestone this afternoon: the last of our dear colleagues has moved into their "forever homes" at their new desks! Take a moment to think about that: last February, the first occupants moved into the new construction and that migration continued group by group through the spring. And then this fall, group by group our teams have settled out into their digs in the better-than-ever original building. (And none of that even accounts for the previous year of people working across the street in the Loft!)

We will celebrate all of this -- the moving, the settling, the moving again, the settling again, the teamwork it took to do this without tearing our hair out, the epic effort made a few people who carried a lot of the project's stress, and the joy of stretching out in the beautiful new building. Friday afternoon, November 4th - look for an announcement with details, or follow the smell of cake.

A very few things to tell you about around the building:
  • The sliding door between the News/Talk studios and the Green Room will be installed Saturday, and finished up on Monday. This is the earthshaking noise that we thought would happen during working hours this week, but has mercifully been moved to the weekend.
  • The sticky door entrances are also getting fixed this weekend!
  • The arched door in Founders Hall (formerly known as the front door) will be torn out and replaced on Nov. 5
  • Performance Studio will get a thorough construction cleaning this weekend
  • Performance Control (formerly Studio A) is now functional and can be booked in Zimbra! Please note, this studio is now for production only: it cannot go directly to air right now. (Maybe it will again in the future.)

Mailboxes are moving - imminently!
The new mailboxes have large cubbies for packages that normally clogged up the small mail boxes. No more shall books and CDs be strewn about, abandoned, unloved.

New system: you'll find a brightly colored clip on your mailbox when a package has arrived for you. Look for the package in one of the cubbies up above, and return the clip to the drawer under the mailboxes.

Final construction tasks are winding down:
The Construction team did a massive, last-chance building walk-through recently to develop the final punchlist of tasks for the builders to complete. That means that subcontractors will be coming through, sometimes without warning, to knock out those items and get them finished. (For instance, the Development Department had unexpected quality time this morning with the electricians. We would love to have warned you about that in advance, but we didn't know ourselves that it was happening.)

Random, surprise work will continue through the week of November 7. We have requested that NO punchlist work be done by anyone on Election Day. (I feel like there is a joke to be made about unpleasant construction and the presidential election; have at it in the Comments section below.)

Regular blog posts are ending - next week!
Did you know that we've been meeting in this blog nearly every week for more than a YEAR? I really think it's time we move on. Next week's post will be our last, and it will be full of nostalgic whimsy, moments of zen, and practical tidbits on what happens next.
