Continuity Update for March 28

Move-ins are going pretty smoothly!  
Each move reveals something new to figure out, and Todd appreciates everyone's punctuality and patience in getting technology up and running at our new desks.

Stuff that’s changed:

• Two new printers will show up in your computer when you reboot: "Admin Wing Colorcube" and "News Workcentre". Workcenter is offline right now, but Colorcube is eager to print your selfies and other urgent color copying projects.
• Neagley & Chase is in the process of trying to get the sidewalks, ramps, and curbs poured at the front entrance. They are using some of the gravel at the front parking area as base for the sidewalks and will regrade this area to drive/park on once some material has been removed.
• Room 102A (Studio One Green Room) will not be turned over to VPR until after April 15th. For awhile longer, we storing an enormous pane of glass there that will be installed in Studio One's control room.

Staff Q & A:

There is a very high-pitched squealing sound in the newsroom. It's intermittent but when it goes away, it's not for long.
Construction guys are isolating the problem, probably a loose a coil in the HVAC system.

Can we get hooks or something to hang bags or sweaters at our desk partitions?
We're researching a few options for you - more soon.

Can we “pre-move” things to our new desks prior to our appointed move?
Yes, go for it!


Punchlist
Brian and Laurie are keeping a running list of items to follow up on - this is included in the daily scrum notes. If you notice something that's not quite right (a weird noise, for instance - see above) please let them know in person or write to punchlist@vpr.net. Please do not assume that someone already knows about the thing you noticed.

"Cord management"
I can spend endless, joyful hours perusing The Container Store website with its pages full of bobbles and gadgets that keep All  The Things neat and organized. Among those things? Cords. If you, like me, have an irrational compulsion to neatly tie and pin down messy cords, Todd asks that you pause for a moment. Don't use tape or adhesives to corral cords, and don't spend money on cord ties quite yet. At some point soon, we'll get everyone some gizmos for cord management. Till then, see how things look and feel at your desk for awhile, as you may end up rearranging  where your phone is, etc. If you need a longer cord for something, tell Todd.

Master Control, back in action!
Studio A, thank you for your service these past several weeks but we're gladly heading back down the hallway. Master Control has a new soundboard, new computers and a revised floor plan that is part-way realized. A new producer desk is a few weeks away. (We still have the sweet, sweet marble green furniture from a nostalgic era of grunge flannel, "car phones" and the Macarena.)

Morning Edition and All Things Considered are broadcasting from Master as of today, Vermont Edition will move back to Master & Talk tomorrow, Tuesday.


Mission Control for Pledge Drive
Only if we need it! Should an on-air pledge drive begin on April 1, there will be a Mission Control set up in the Green Room, and it will work same as it has in past drives. "Pilots are scheduled, we just need flight attendants to serve cocktails," says Cody Fiala. #pledgesnotcocktails

Music Library plan
If you were 40,000 CDs, where would you prefer to live?  Kari, Franny, Brian and Rob are rethinking the short-term and long-term plans for the Music Library's home. The best scenario might be to leave the stacks exactly as they are. Look for more on this as plans come together.

HR postings
Law and prudence requires that employers post notices about the legal rights of workers in a common space. Our postings will be moving from the side entrance to a bulletin board across the from the new elevator. (These notices will move again to a permanent home in the fall.)

How long do we have the trailer?
The Construction Team (Brian, Laurie, Joe) is looking at when the new meeting rooms will come online, and that will help us determine when we can send away the Trailer. Target date is April 11. In the meantime, enjoy its attractive and spacious environs, like these folks are:

The Trailer provides just the welcoming ambiance we want VPR job candidates to feel when they interview.  Here the Corporate Support Associate position hiring committee exudes that warmth at one of their interview sessions.
