Here is your Monday look-ahead at all things Continuity and Construction:

This hand dryer is so fancy I'm not sure how it works. Fortunately it has instructions in several alphabets.
Move-ins completed: 44!
Move-ins remaining: 15
Daily scrums held: 11
Stuff that’s changed:
- CD filing cabinets for news archive and programming archive have moved! They were located up in the old newsroom, they are now located in Master Control.
- The Loft has moved out and shut down! Thank you Loft, you were very good to us.
- The white boards are here! (And there was much rejoicing.) Some assembly required.
- Wednesday morning: prepare for 10 minutes of drilling at 6 a.m. on the south wall, facing the pond.
- The escape hatch from the old newsroom is being taken out today.
- Work on the undersides of some desks will continue later this week.
- Morning news meeting: beginning tomorrow, it will be in the big conference room upstairs!
This photo shows less than HALF of the new kitchen. Wooo!
Brian and Laurie are keeping a running list of items to follow up on - this is included in the daily scrum notes. If you notice something that's not quite right please let them know in person or write to punchlist@vpr.net. Please do not assume that someone already knows about the thing you noticed! You know what else is ok to send to punchlist? Kudos and reinforcement of things that are working great!
Punchlist items noted recently:
- Carpet at the top of the stairs is loose: there is a temporary fix in place until the transition strip can be installed
- Phones! They are different. The manufacturer's manual is more than 100 pages, so Todd and Heather will try to pare it down to the essentials. If you have a phone question, post it below or come to a scrum. Because if they guess at what you need to know, they'll probably guess wrong.
- Acoustics in the small meeting rooms and LMAs: we are working on it and will have an interim fix soon.

When are the studio clocks getting installed in the newsroom?
Imminently!
Can we hang a Vermont map in the newsroom?
Yes, but use temporary putty that won't damage the walls. We'll revisist putting up a more attractive, less temporary map later on.
When will phones be installed in the meeting rooms?
Very soon, possibly today. Look for exciting conference room updates in tomorrow's scrum notes! (This is what we call a forward promote.)
April 15, the Ides of April
A few things to remember about this day:
- It's your last chance to retrieve items from your old desk area.
- This is the last day that the old kitchen will be in service - please do not leave much of anything in the fridge, in the sink, on the counters. Very little will be moved to the new kitchen, and none of it will include personal items.
- The final employees will be moved in and we'll be fully populated in the new building!
- The following Monday, April 18, is the day that all business protocols will change for public entrances, mail, deliveries, keys, etc. Expect lots of instruction on this in the week prior to that date.
Still MORE kitchen!!
Some of us were noticing last week that the new building is quiet. Like, REALLY quiet. Either everyone is doing their part to be respectful of others' need for quiet, or there is an odorless, colorless Quiet Cloud filling the air column above our desks that is causing near silence throughout the building. To remedy that, we suggest a playlist to celebrate the new space. Songs suggested so far follow the themes of standing desks, making more noise and construction generally:
"C'mon Feel The Noise" Quiet Riot
"Turn Up the Radio" Madonna
"Get Up, Stand Up" Bob Marley
"Stand" R.E.M.
"Don't Stand So Close To Me" The Police
"If I Had a Hammer" Pete Seeger
"Another Brick in the Wall" Pink Floyd
(Use the comments section to add to the mix.)

Paranoia strikes deep
ReplyDeleteInto your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
Step out of line, the men come and take you away
We better stop
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look - what's going down?
--Buffalo Springfield
oh my god, awesome!
DeleteI've been thinking that a staff pot luck would be a nice way to celebrate the café. I imagine there are a number of ideas for this celebration. I am suggesting this because the pot luck we held a few months ago was so successful. There was a strong sense of community in all of us sharing our culinary work, eating together and talking.
