Kitchen:
- For a limited time you may access the old kitchen without a hard hat. This is until we have a new kitchen sink, refrigerator, and coffee brewing capabilities; probably Friday.
- Until we get the new kitchen sink, all the kitchen supplies are up in the old kitchen area.
- In meeting rooms: Please pack in, pack out and straighten things up before exiting a meeting space. The next group of your peers will find the room the way you leave it, so pay it forward.
- Purging is still possible! If you’ve moved something to your new space and no longer remember why you thought it was important to do so, please let Brian or Laurie know and they will help.
- A fairly large group from Champlain College is coming in tomorrow morning for a tour from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. After the tour they’ll be meeting in the large mezzanine conference room. Thanks for your patience.
Stuff that's new:
- You can park in front of the new entrance! There are about 18 parking spots there, look for signs. (Please leave the visitor spots open, as always.)
- The front of the old building is now a full blown construction area. If you’re accessing the music library, news room, or front of the building, HARD HAT IS REQUIRED.
- The new public restrooms in the lobby are up and running with some initial supplies. Also, for a limited time, the bathroom by the old kitchen will be available.
- Crow’s nest now has four chairs and a round table.
Stuff that isn't finished but will be soon:
- Permanent trash barrels for restrooms
- Trash/Recycling barrels for cafe
- Audio for the public spaces will be coming next month when the full AV systems are installed.
- Kitchen sink is being replace (with a larger version)
- The cafe furniture will take a bit to be delivered, assembled, and put in place. In the meantime, we’ll set up some temporary tables and seating.
- We’re still working on getting the bench in the cafe upholstered.
- Railing on the front patio still are being designed and then will need time for fabrication and installation
- Lights in skylight will be lowered and wired with black wiring - delay in getting the wiring
- Doors and glass panels for the ‘community room’ - 4 to 6 week delivery, then installation
- Custom farmhouse table and kitchen island - 4 to 6 week fabrication
- Final table tops for cafe tables - involves a photo project, still needs design
- Donor wall/Pantry door - being fabricated now, no ship date confirmed
- Doors for space next to lobby elevator
- TV/monitor for cafe built into the trash & recycling cabinet
Punch List additions:
The sensors on some of the lights seem really sensitive, while other stay on forever or turn off quickly. Can these be adjusted?
Yes - the electrician will work with us to adjust the senors and show us how to set the timing and sensitivity
What should we do with our old keys? Are there new metal keys as backups to the fobs?
Drop off old metal keys at Laurie's desk. The locks they fit no longer exist, so your keys are just bits of useless metal. We'll look into whether a few staff should have metal keys, in case of a power or system failure at 4:30 in the morning when Mitch is trying to get inside for his shift, for instance.
Will there be a button at the front desk to open the vestibule door?
Yes - installation is tomorrow.
Where are our newspapers?
We’ll contact BFP to make sure they know we have a new front entrance. There was massive construction traffic on our site early this morning, it might have scared them away.
Is it always going to be this cold in our building?
No. Currently we have multiple exterior doors propped open - Studio One and the old front entrance - these are creating some wonkiness with internal temps. Things should calm down in a week or so.
Will it echo this much in the cafe and lobby area forever?
Another great question! The echo is pretty noticeable right now so we’ll talk it over with the architects. We’ll work to make sure the area is comfortable and conducive to the functions it will serve. We also have a bunch of really nice furniture coming for the lobby which will help with the sound and hard surfaces.
Did VPR try to find a home for all the stuff that was thrown away?
We talked with multiple local office furniture vendors, our contractor, and the architects about sale or donation - there were no options that met our timing and lack of storage. In addition to making things available to staff, we are using Meyers as our disposal company and they sort and recycle.
Can we get conference phones or IP phones in the North Conference Room and Project Room?
Added to the list.
I learned today that, after entering the building, there is a short delay before the door re-locks behind you. How long is that delay?
ReplyDeleteRelated, can you give us an update on the building's security features? What policies should we know about? Obviously, with the new fobs/electronic keys you can track who entered the building when/where. Is there any other new monitoring that didn't exist before? Are there cameras? Door/window sensors? New alarms or fire suppression systems we might not be used? Etc. Just wondering.
Will there be a fire drill, how to find exits, basic security measures?
DeleteWhat is the ETA on padded mats for standing? I am interested in using one.
ReplyDeleteWe're about to switch coffee making locations, equipment, supplies, everything. Will there be training for coffee first responders? How can we, the coffee consumers, help learn, document, model and support this key transition?
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of Coffee First Responders.
DeleteAbsolutely. We'll work on a "train the responder" method. I'm working through the first brews right now to clean everything and figure out the details. I'd like to get at least a half dozen test runs under our belt before going live. That might take a good part of today and into tomorrow as I'm juggling stuff.
DeleteSomeone told me yesterday they tried to call me and the number said 'wasn't in service.' She called the main VPR number and tried to go through voice mail but it kept looping back to the main voice mail system. Have others had problems like this?
ReplyDeleteNot sure about what's happening there Patti. I'll pass this along through PUNCHLIST so Todd and others may see. I know I've been getting calls, so it might be situational. We'll check into it.
