Scrum notes - April 6

Green Room, 1:15 p.m., be there or be square! Also, please remember to send any issues, thoughts, concerns or appreciations to Punchlist@vpr.net.

Pro tip: ceiling fans

There are two fans high up in the ceiling, and boy do they oscillate! Oscillate wildly, as Morrissey might say. Look for these large white dials - each fan has one on the interior wall of the newsroom and you can adjust the fan's speed to your liking.

Thank you!
To Mary and Todd for schlepping our boxes of book donations to the Essex library.

Stuff that’s changed:
  • April 13th is your new deadline to clear all items from your former desk. (Taylor and John Dillon, you've been warned.) Anything left after that will be considered eligible for dibs, donation, disposal.
  • The lobby coat closet will be ours starting next week. Office furniture folks are still investigating hooks and such for hanging sweaters and bags at our desks, but for now that is a low priority.
  • A phone is now in the small mezzanine conference room (thank you Todd!).
  • Office supplies have moved! You can find the basics in the cabinets at the bottom of the lobby stairs.

Punch List additions:

Will the windows be getting shades?
For the time being, we’re going to ask people to work with the glare. Adjusting monitors and a little bobbing and weaving have proven effective. We’re trying to get a feel for which windows, what time of day, (what season of the year) this presents the biggest issue and work from there.

Acoustics in the large mezzanine conference room are tough!
We’ve sounded the alarm with the construction folks and architects. We’re currently researching acoustical panels for the walls and ceiling.

Dust v. Technology
As we literally are working in a construction area, dust is still building up on surfaces and technology. We’re looking to determine how long the offending work will continue and come up with a better strategy to cope.

How do we know if something reported to the punch list has been addressed?
Check the daily blog post or hit up a scrum - everything is reported in those two places. (If a question needs work, we try to report progress scrums.)

I have a naming idea for a new space - whom do I tell?
Everything that is bookable in Zimbra has a temporary name, with the idea being that we'll live here awhile and see what inspiration strikes us for permanent names. Same is true for areas and neighborhoods of the building at are bookable but could benefit from naming.  (Like, the newsroom - one anonymous staffer is trying to get traction for the name "Center Space.") Have a naming idea? Or or an idea for how to decide on names? Please use the comments or come to a scrum.

  1. The drilling noise from the Office Environments guys is perhaps the most intense construction noise we've dealt with thus far. I wish we'd been warned in advance!

  2. The deadline of April 13 for removing things from your desk is not true for Development Services and Acctg/Finance. We are not moving until the 13 & 14th. Please do not take anything from these areas until the 15th. Thanks, Madelyn & Cody
